Spain’s Sunny Coast Boasts Most Blue Flag Beaches in the World
Spain’s sunny coast continues to shine as the country with the most Blue Flag beaches in the world. The prestigious Blue Flags are awarded for excellent water quality and environmental standards, making them a top choice for tourists seeking pristine beaches.
This year, Spain has been awarded a total of 683 Blue Flags, 11 more than the previous year. The Valencia region leads the pack with 159 Blue Flag beaches, followed by Andalusia with 156, Galicia with 125, and Catalonia with 118.
The Secretary of State for Tourism, Rosario Sánchez Grau, expressed pride in Spain’s continued success in maintaining the highest number of Blue Flag beaches globally. She emphasized the importance of sustainability in preserving these natural treasures.
New additions to the list of Blue Flag beaches include El Toyo in Almería, Cambriles in Granada, El Encinarejo in Jaén, and several others across different regions. However, 30 beaches lost their Blue Flag status this year due to non-compliance with regulations and water quality issues.
