Unos 300 urheilijaa 19 maasta osallistuu 22. toukokuuta uuteen Desafío Nerjan (Málaga) -tapahtumaan

Around 300 athletes from 19 countries will compete on the afternoon of May 22 in the fifth edition of the Nerja Challenge, an event included in the international athletics calendar, with the World Athletics Continental Tour-Challenger label (category D) and held at the Enrique López Cuenca Stadium in Nerja (Málaga).
The Vice President and Provincial Sports Deputy, Juan Rosas, has presented this athletic meeting along with Provincial Deputy Nieves Atencia; the President of the Andalusian Athletics Federation, Enrique López Cuenca; the Sports Councillor of Nerja, Marcelo Berutti; and the organizer of the Challenge, Francisco Urbano.
Rosas highlighted that Nerja is a leading town in terms of athletics and added that this competition has already become one of the most prominent athletic events on the calendar, bringing together top-level national and international athletes.
He emphasized the support of the Provincial Council of Málaga for the promotion of sports, in this case, to promote the practice of athletics, and indicated that the Nerja Challenge reflects not only the good facilities available in the province but also the ability to organize and hold top-level athletic meetings.
Likewise, Juan Rosas pointed out that the event not only serves to promote sports but also contributes to the economic and tourist development of Nerja and its surroundings.
On the other hand, Enrique López Cuenca stressed that the province has become a national and international athletic reference and referred to various tests held in the province and others planned, in addition to the Nerja Challenge, such as an international indoor track meeting in Antequera, a Spanish under-23 championship in Antequera, a Spanish championship at the Málaga track, and another international meeting in the capital.
Marcelo Berutti commented that an event of this nature gives great visibility to Nerja and emphasized that this year’s edition is particularly attractive because it serves the athletes for their participation in the Olympic Games.
IMPORTANT LINEUP OF ATHLETES
In this line, Francisco Urbano detailed the important lineup of athletes who will participate, including world champions, world medalists, and Olympic athletes.
For example, Mariano García, Jesús Gómez, Ignacio Fontes, Jael Bestué, Maribel Pérez, Esther Guerrero, Marta Pérez, Una Stancev, Irene Sánchez-Escribano, and Carolina Robles. International renowned athletes will also participate, such as Nicholas Kiplangat, Abdesalem Ayouni, Melese Nberet, Samuel Cherop, Remy Schyns, Oratile Nowe.
There will be competitions in both male and female categories, including 100, 200, 400, 800, and 1,500 and 5,000 meters flat races, 110 and 400 meters hurdles (male), 3,000 meters steeplechase, as well as hammer throw and high jump. In total, around 300 professional athletes will compete. And, prior to this competition, the San Isidro Trophy will be contested, with the participation of around 400 children and enthusiasts.
