Fuengirola, jälleen kerran palkittu erinomaisista sinisillä lipuilla varustetuista rannoistaan koko rantaviivallaan
Fuengirola awarded Blue Flags for excellence in its beaches
7/5/2024 – Fuengirola has once again been recognized for the excellence of its beaches with Blue Flags along its coastline. The entity that manages these distinctions in Spain, the Association for Environmental Education and Consumer Affairs (ADEAC), has once again awarded distinctions to the four beaches in the municipal area: El Castillo, Fuengirola, Los Boliches-Las Gaviotas, and Carvajal, highlighting aspects such as the good condition of the sands, the services provided on them, accessibility, environmental management, as well as the properties of the waters along the Fuengirola coast. This is the fifth year that Fuengirola’s beaches have received this distinction.
The process for obtaining Blue Flags oversees the suitability of the beaches and other parameters such as accessibility. In this sense, Fuengirola has a beach specially adapted for people with reduced mobility since 2001. In fact, today, all four beaches in the city have a fully adapted area for this sector of the population, with shaded areas, wooden flooring to facilitate movement with wheelchairs or for people facing other difficulties, and also have assistance from lifeguard personnel. Additionally, last season, the City Council incorporated an audio guide system that allows blind people to access the beach.
Regarding security, Fuengirola’s beaches have a large human presence composed of lifeguards, municipal guards, and local police officers, in addition to the drone surveillance service along the entire coastline.
Services
Fuengirola’s coastline extends over seven kilometers of completely urban and accessible beaches, divided into four areas. They are equipped with a total of 78 sunbed plots; 29 beach bars; 64 pedestrian beach accesses, which have showers, foot washes, and resting seats; fourteen public toilets. Four sunbed plots for people with reduced mobility (each of them has shaded areas and personalized attention from the lifeguard and rescue team). Areas for recreational boats and water sports. There are also five hydro pedal areas and two paddle surf areas.
Along its sands, there are also five modules dedicated to the Lifeguard and Rescue Service, plus one for police coordination. This task is reinforced with the daily cleaning of all these spaces. For this purpose, the City Council has three screening machines, a significant team of workers, as well as trash cans and ecological islands on the surface for selective waste collection on all beaches.
In addition, in the lifeguard modules installed in each of the areas, there are ’sun traffic lights’ that inform beachgoers of the type of sunscreen they should use. The beaches also have a public address system for announcements to beach users.
