Córdoban kylä, joka täyttyy kukista toukokuussa ja juhlii värikkäitä festivaaleja
Iznájar, located in the south of the province of Córdoba, celebrates once again (for the thirteenth time) its highly anticipated Festival of Balconies and Corners. This is a very special opportunity to visit one of the most beautiful villages in Andalusia, as its streets and squares are filled with flowers throughout the month of May.
But this year, Iznájar surprises with a great novelty. The decoration with natural flowers that fill every corner with their aroma will be complemented by handmade flowers created by the women who are part of the Urban Knitting Iznájar project.
Sustainable Approach
The lack of water is a significant issue in this region, so a more sustainable and ecological alternative was needed to accompany the natural flowers. Crochet was presented as the best option, and once the results were seen, there was no doubt that it was. During this edition, the crochet flowers will share the spotlight with the natural ones and will fill those spaces with color where the natural flowers cannot reach.
Impressive Work
These hundreds of flowers (including pots) have been knitted by more than two hundred women who are part of Urban Knitting Iznájar. They have plenty of experience when it comes to facing challenges of this magnitude, as they have participated in other major projects that have given the town a special touch on other occasions. This year, the natural flowers will share the spotlight with others created by the Urban Knitting Iznájar association.
Classic Elements
However, the classic natural flowers, such as gitanillas, carnations, and geraniums in red and pink tones, will not be missing from this event. The difference is that they will be concentrated in places that usually have a higher tourist influx, such as the legendary Patio de las Comedias, one of the most Instagrammable places in the municipality. Flowers will also adorn emblematic corners like Corral de la Pacheca, Plaza de la Torre, Arcos del Coso, Parque de las Tres Cruces, Plaza de Rafael Alberti, or the inner courtyard of the town hall.
This route, which visitors can walk while enjoying the peace and beauty of the municipality, is accompanied by floral decorations that residents have carefully and meticulously created in their own courtyards, gates, and facades.
Full Agenda
In addition to flowers, Iznájar’s agenda is filled with very interesting proposals, including guided tours, photography or painting contests, and the always popular flamenco.
